As part of the International Week hosted by the Faculty of Business at Aleksandër Moisiu University, the IoT-ECO project proudly joined a lineup of academic events focused on innovation, sustainability, and European collaboration.
With participants and partners from across Europe, the event created a perfect stage to showcase IoT-ECO’s mission: harnessing the Internet of Things for a more sustainable and efficient future. From circular economy strategies to real-world applications in smart environments, our presence underlined the importance of digital transformation in regional development.

The IoT-ECO project was proudly presented during the 55th anniversary celebration of Mechanical Engineering Studies in Montenegro, held on April 15, 2024! Over 300 participants from Montenegro and abroad explored the Faculty’s labs and current projects, including IoT-ECO’s role in driving green digital transformation.


Each guest received a gift package featuring the Faculty’s Annual Report, which includes a detailed overview of the project and its role in fostering green digital transformation (page 70).
Polytechnic University of Tirana Visits UBT
As part of the IoT-ECO Project’s dissemination activities, the University for Business and Technology (UBT) had the pleasure of hosting a delegation of six esteemed academics from the Polytechnic University of Tirana.
The visit began with a warm welcome from UBT’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, and the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. Besnik Qehaja, who highlighted the importance of strengthening academic and research collaboration across the region.
The guests had the opportunity to explore UBT’s "Net Zero Energy Campus," science and innovation parks, modern laboratories, and research facilities.
Elton Boshnjaku, PhD student at UBT, presented current projects focused on developing and implementing green IoT solutions.
Fruitful discussions took place around shared experiences, innovative practices, collaboration between PhD students of the two Universities, and exciting plans for future cooperation in the field of IoT and emerging technologies, joint publications and conferences.
This visit reinforces our shared commitment to advancing education, innovation, and digital transformation—key pillars of the IoT-ECO Project.

IoT-ECO Project - Invited lecture: “Hands-on demonstration on IoT device configuration and programming with Raspberry Pi”
MSc. Doruntine Berisha held an invited lecture at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering as part of the IoT-ECO Project. MSc. Doruntine Berisha is an industry expert with many years of experience at 3CIS J.S.C, and also a PhD candidate at University of Prishtina. 3CIS is a leading provider of specialized telecom services across the globe. They provide various services to major telecom carriers via their network of partners and also directly.
The event was attended by undergraduate students in their second year of studies at the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Bachelor programme. The students showed great enthusiasm for experiencing hands-on practice on IoT system.

IoT-ECO Project – Industry Talk: “IoT Applications in the Albanian Industry”
On March 25, in the premises of the Faculty of Information Technology at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, a promotional event was held as part of the IoT-ECO Project, featuring three distinguished speakers from the industry.

IoT-Eco at Caucasus University’s International Week!
The IoT-Eco Project had the pleasure of participating in International Week 2025 at Caucasus University, held from March 17–21.

We presented the goals and activities of IoT-Eco during the Partner Universities Educational Fair, engaging with both international guests and Caucasus University students.

The event brought together 20+ academic and administrative representatives from 15 partner institutions around the world.

The official opening was led by Caucasus University President Kakha Shengelia and Vice President Irena Melua, who highlighted the importance of innovation and global collaboration.
We are proud to have represented IoT-Eco, contributing to international dialogue and the exchange of ideas for a smarter and more sustainable future!
Guest Lecture by Mr Boris Marković, electrical engineer and owner of company M-Code D.O.O
On March 10, 2025, Mr Boris Marković, electrical engineer and owner of company M-Code D.O.O, an esteemed alumna of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro, delivered an online guest lecture on the topic The Integration of Drones in Iot Systems. The lecture was organized as part of the course Industrial Engineering led by prof. Aleksandar Vujović and offered students a unique opportunity to learn from a practitioner actively involved in the field. Mr. Marković also highlighted the importance of cross-disciplinary knowledge, emphasizing how electrical engineering, data science, and advanced communication technologies converge to drive the future of IoT-enabled systems.
Promotion of the Erasmus+ Project IoT-ECO During "Open Doors Day"
"Open Doors Day" is an annual event organized by the University of Montenegro (UOM) to promote its various university units to prospective students and other interested parties. This year, "Open Doors Day" took place on March 12, 2025. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, along with other university units, had its own marketing desk where professors, assistants and student presented study programs and other activities of their respective faculties. During the event, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering showcased all active international projects. In this context, the Erasmus+ project IoT-ECO was presented to the attendees.
Open Lecture: Durrës Port towards a Smart Port.
On 11 March, as part of the IoT ECO project and in collaboration with Durres Port Authority, an open lecture was held on the topic “Durrës Port towards a Smart Port.” During the presentation, Eng. Vegim Hoti, Head of the Innovation Unit at APD, addressed key topics such as the current status of Durrës Port, existing technologies, steps towards digital transformation, the advantages of a smart port, and successful case studies from international ports.
The presentation particularly focused on the role of IoT in optimizing port operations, cybersecurity, environmental pollution monitoring, and the use of green technologies for a more sustainable port.
In the era we live in, green transformation and digital innovation are the key to enhancing the efficiency, security, and sustainability of ports.
Visit to the “Beqir Çela” Vocational School – IoT ECO Project
On March 5, 2025, as part of the IoT ECO project, a visit was organized at the “Beqir Çela” Vocational School in Durrës, aiming to introduce students to advanced concepts of Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital Twins. Through an engaging animated educational video, students had the opportunity to understand how smart devices and internet-connected systems influence modern technology development and its application across various industries. They were
introduced to Digital Twins, an innovative technology that creates digital replicas of real-world objects and processes, enabling more precise simulations and analyses in engineering and manufacturing.
A special focus was also placed on energy efficiency, explaining how IoT and Digital Twins can optimize energy resource usage in buildings and industries. Students learned how smart technologies contribute to reducing energy consumption, managing lighting systems, and optimizing heating and cooling systems in a more sustainable
and efficient manner. This activity aimed to bring young people closer to the latest technologies and highlight the importance of digital transformation in vocational education. The visit was made
possible with the support of the IoT ECO project, funded by the European Union, bringing innovation and technological knowledge closer to the next generation.
Special visit took place at the Community Center for Children with Disabilities in Durrës
On March 4, 2025, as part of the IoT ECO project, a special visit took place at the Community Center for Children with Disabilities in Durrës, Albania from the Aleksander Moisiu University team.
The children had the opportunity to explore the world of Internet of Things (IoT) and Intelligent Systems through an engaging animated educational video!
They learned how smart devices function in everyday life and how IoT is transforming the world around us. Additionally, they were introduced to the fundamental concepts of Digital Twins, a technology that creates digital replicas of real-world objects for
advanced analysis and simulations. In the end we had a Q&A session with the chidren and their parents.
This activity was made possible thanks to the IoT ECO project, funded by the European Union, bringing innovation and technological education closer to the community—because technology is truly for everyone!

Promotion of the IoT project during the Alumni Meeting at the University of Montenegro
On February 25, 2025, the University of Montenegro's Faculty of Mechanical Engineering hosted a gathering of its alumni to establish the Faculty’s Alumni Club. The event reconnected former students—now entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and experts—who aim to support the faculty’s growth and foster collaboration. A highlight was the presentation of the IoT ECO project, showcasing innovation in sustainability through IoT technology. The newly formed Alumni Club sets the stage for ongoing cooperation between alumni, the faculty, and industry, with a shared goal of advancing education, launching new initiatives, and contributing to Montenegro’s economic and social development.
Ceremony at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
The ceremony at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, held on December 24, 2024, brought together professors from the University of Montenegro, primarily from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, as well as other distinguished guests. During the event, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering presented the achievements and results of the Faculty’s work over the past year. The ceremony also provided an opportunity to highlight activities within the IoT ECO project. The event took place in the ceremonial hall of the Technical Faculties.

WP5 Teaching Materials / Virtual Prototypes meeting
Exciting updates from the recent WP5 Teaching Materials / Virtual Prototypes meeting! On October 30, 2024, our team came together to share and discuss innovative virtual models designed to enhance educational resources and interactive learning experiences. The meeting featured dynamic presentations, including a virtual model of the UBT Campus by the UBT team, an IoT model for UOM, and an engaging tutorial on the virtual prototype of the Port of Durrës by Aleksander Moisiu University. Polytechnic University of Tirana team provided insights into the diploma thesis projects of two Master’s students, the team from University of Patras discussed the publication of new teaching materials and courses on Moodle within the IoT-ECO Hub.
The virtual prototypes showcased were varied, dynamic, and in diverse forms, reflecting flexibility and adaptability in design, making them invaluable tools for the future of education!

Great progress on WP5! Our partners from Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro have uploaded their teaching materials, and the review process deadlines are set. Special thanks to everyone for their hard work over the summer. Next steps include reviews by our partners from Austria, Bulgaria, and Greece. IoT ECO project presented in the Fair of European Projects in Podgorica

The University of Montenegro and the “Mediterranean” University Montenegro, participated in the Fair of European Projects in Podgorica on June 8, 2024. It is an event that gather institutions, organizations, companies and the NGO sector that implement projects funded by various programs of the European Union.

The event aims to promote the results of the projects.
Over 40 organizations and institutions participated and presented approximately 200 projects.

The event was opened by the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, Dr. Nina Drakić, and the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević.

The IoT ECO project was also presented by prof. Dr. Maja Delibašić, project manager from the “Mediterranean” University Montenegro, Faculty of Information Technologies and prof. dr. Jelena Šaković Jovanović, project manager from the University of Montenegro, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Information about the event was published on the web site of both universities as well as social networks.
IoT-ECO mid-term dissemination event.
During the event “Erasmus+ and CEEPUS International Week on 19 May 2023 – 25 May 2024 at Technical University-Sofia, Bulgaria” was organized In parallel the IoT-ECO mid-term dissemination event.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Galia Marinova the Project Coordinator from Technical University of Sofia presented the Erasmus+ project “IoT Green Transformation for Academic Society and Business Oriented Ecosystem in Western Balkan”
All the participants in the event enjoyed the promotional materials of the project and took many photos .
The presentation raised the interest of the invited people and generated a lot of discussion for future cooperation.
IoT ECO project part of IEEE MIPRO 2024 Scientific Conference
Prof.Valdete Rexhebeqaj Hamiti from University of Prishtina participated in the MIPRO 2024, 47th ICT and Electronics Convention where she presented the paper “ Trends and Challenges in Implementing IoT Green Transformation Concepts in Engineering Curricula” in Engineering Education Conference. MIPRO, is one of the largest and most longstanding ICT conventions in the region, this year marking its 47th edition. The research presented in the paper was conducted within the IoTECO project, specifically it summarized the results and conclusions of several surveys distributed to Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering – University of Prishtina students as part of WP2 – Preparation regarding
the situation of IoT penetration in study curriculas in engineering.
During the conference days, other dissemination activities were performed in which IoT ECO project brochures and flyers were presented and
distributed to conference guests. Prof. Hamiti had the chance to present her results and exchange ideas with hundreds of participants from
around the globe. Prof. Hamiti’s participation in the conference was supported by the project.
Furthermore, the presented paper will appear as part of the MIPRO proceedings on the IEEE Xplore Digital library increasing the outreach
potential of the project within the scientific community.

The Faculty of Information Technology at Aleksander Moisiu University hosted an innovative student workshop on latest Technology Trends.

On 24/4/2024 was organized the International Conference "𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐨𝐓 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 ", which intended to address specific needs by proposing opportunities for intelligent solutions based on Internet of Things (IoT)/Internet of Everything (IoE) technology, their application for green transformation and development of institutional capacities ♻.
The "𝖬𝖾𝗍𝖺𝗏𝖾𝗋𝗌𝗂 𝖴𝖡𝖳-𝖲𝗆𝖺𝗋𝗍 𝖢𝗂𝗍𝗒" conference and project are part of the Erasmus project "IoT Green Transformation for Academic Society and Business Oriented Ecosystem in Western Balkans, which aims to build a Smart City at UBT-Lipjan. In this Smart City sensors measure all the necessary parameters, including solar panels and greenhouses for planting, parking lots and any other activity that takes place on campus.
👉 The conference addressed challenges and opportunities in the field of IoT, promoting sustainable solutions for the environment and industry. It offered a wide range of topics, from the integration of renewable energy in IoT, circular economy principles, ethical IoT design, smart cities and urban sustainability, climate monitoring and adaptation, social impact and innovation, to cyber security and regulatory policies.
CLUSTER MEETING "GREEN TRANSITION IN THE MONTENEGRO SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION"
In the organization of the National Erasmus+ office, a cluster meeting was held in the premises
of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Montenegro, called "Green transition in
the Montenegrin system of higher education", which gathered the coordinators/local coordinators
of the Erasmus+ projects of capacity building in the field of higher education that are
implemented in Montenegrin institutions of higher education, and are oriented towards the green
economy. The event also gathered non-academic partners who participate in these projects.
In the introductory part of the meeting, the attendees were greeted by: prof. Marija Jevrić from
the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Montenegro and Vanja Drljević, director of the National Erasmus+ office, who emphasized the importance of this topic, as well as the importance of Erasmus+ projects that are focused on this area.
ROUND TABLE: RE-INDUSTRIALIZATION AND NEW PRODUCTS - A VISION FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF MONTENEGRO
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Montenegro celebrated 54 years of
existence on April 15, 2024, and that event was marked by a round table on the topic of
Reindustrialization of Montenegro. Numerous participants of the meeting had the opportunity to
hear about the results of the work of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in the previous
period and to, among other things, learn about the projects implemented by the Faculty of
Mechanical Engineering and thus also the project IoT ECO - IoT Green Transformation for
Academic Society and Business Oriented Ecosystem in Western Balkans

WP3: Meeting and Training at TU GRAZ
WP 3. Experience and sharing know-how with EU partners on the establishment of the IoT-ECO hub.
The IoT- ECO project brought together professors and students from Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Greece and Austria at the Technical University of Graz, Austria. This meeting and training aimed to increase skills and expertise in creating an IoT-ECO Hub, energy efficiency, improving air quality through applications in the IoT industry. Through this project, IoT technology will be included in the teaching curricula, but not only, it will bring the innovation of creating virtual prototypes for industry, representing ecosystem models and green transformation.
Meeting at Durres Port Authority
Meeting with Associate Partner, Authority Port of Durres, on May 26, 2023, for IoT Project Exploration and Collaboration Opportunities. During this visit, we aimed to gain valuable insights into the local context and potential challenges and opportunities for the successful implementation of our IoT project. The Authority Port of Durres plays a crucial role in this initiative, and we believe that their expertise and cooperation will significantly contribute to the project's overall success.
